Ampiric, a pilot cluster

A hub for all students

Ampiric is a pilot project designed to achieve lasting improvements in pupils' learning of basic skills throughout their school career. Supported by Aix-Marseille University and its partners, Ampiric combines research, training and fieldwork to develop pedagogical practices and promote educational success for all, especially students in difficulty.

Working together to innovate

Ampiric (Aix-Marseille - Pôle d'Innovation, de Recherche, d'Enseignement pour l'Education) is one of Aix-Marseille University's major structuring projects, and winner of the Caisse des dépôts et consignations' "Pôle pilote de formation et de recherche en éducation" call for projects.

A network of partners

Coordinated by Aix-Marseille University and the A*Midex foundation, with the Aix-Marseille Inspé component, Ampiric is run in partnership with: the Association Nationale de la Recherche et de la Technologie (ANRT), Réseau Canopé and the Région Sud.

  • the Aix-Marseille Academy,
  • Avignon University and Université Côte d'Azur,
  • the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS),
  • Association Nationale de la Recherche et de la Technologie (ANRT),
  • Réseau Canopé,
  • and the Southern Region.

Linking research, training and the field

More concretely, Ampiric brings together researchers and teacher-researchers from different laboratories, national education managers, trainers and teachers, who rely on the development of innovative research work to bring out new scientific knowledge and relevant know-how for teachers, and to develop, experiment with and disseminate new pedagogical approaches.

To this end, Ampiric organizes seminars, conferences and feedback days to encourage exchanges...

Ampiric sheds light on the complexities of education by fostering dialogue and a shared culture between those involved in the world of education.

3 areas & 11 priorities

All the work carried out within Ampiric falls into 3 areas, which can be broken down into 11 priority areas.

Learning and teaching fundamental skills

  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Mathematical skills
  • Reasoning
  • Respect for others / citizenship

Learning and teaching fundamental skills in specific contexts

  • Priority education
  • Learning disorders
  • Psychosocial and environmental contexts and factors

The evolution of initial and in-service teacher training

  • Training continuum
  • Research support
  • Internationalization

Our motto

The cluster's 5 actions

Transforming teacher training and support to help their practices evolve.
Initiate and support collaborations between teaching teams and researchers, with projects designed and carried out jointly by the field and research.
Improve understanding of the teaching-learning process in fundamental knowledge by supporting basic research projects
Working closely with players in the socio-economic world encourages the emergence of innovative teaching tools, whether or not they are based on digital technologies. Coordinated by the Assocation Nationale de La Recherche et de la Technologie (ANRT), the CréativLab draws on research to co-produce, experiment with and label teaching resources, helping to improve fundamental learning.

Interdisciplinarity as a lever

Ampiric is supported by an interdisciplinary scientific network of 24 laboratories, and develops

Collaborative research

Ampiric teams work in close collaboration with school educational teams to respond to the concerns expressed and experienced in the field. To this end, Ampiric launches an annual call for funding for collaborative research projects in partnership with the Ecole Académique de Formation Continue (EAFC). These projects are co-constructed by teams of school teachers and/or trainers, and Ampiric research teams.

Fundamental research

Fundamental research aims to develop new scientific knowledge on teaching and learning processes, in order to support the transformation of teaching practices. Each year, Ampiric issues a call for applications for doctoral and post-doctoral research contracts, which can focus on specific themes or be open to all issues related to the cluster's objectives.

Partnership research - CréativLab

Working closely with players in the socio-economic world encourages the emergence of innovative teaching tools, whether or not they are based on digital technologies. Coordinated by the Assocation Nationale de La Recherche et de la Technologie (ANRT), the CréativLab draws on research to co-produce, experiment with and label teaching resources, helping to improve basic learning.

Focus on the "Jacques Ginestié" experimental set

Inaugurated in January 2023, the Espace Jacques Ginestié is a unique 200m² space dedicated to educational research. Located on the first floor of the Inspé d'Aix-Marseille on the Saint-Jérôme Campus, it is designed for teachers, trainers, researchers, engineers and doctoral students.

Various specialized rooms are used to study the behavior of students and teachers. These include a modular classroom equipped with cameras, microphones, one-way glass and position sensors, a virtual reality room and another dedicated to the study of gaze and brain activity. The space is also equipped with advanced technological tools such as digital tablets, educational robots and data collection devices. It also offers technical assistance to support research projects.
