Aix-Marseille University, a lever for emancipation
Key figures
Promoting equal opportunities
The University is developing innovative and progressive teaching practices, based on the principles of equal opportunity and personalized career paths. amU has strengthened its ties with high schools and their students. Every year, 40 science students are recruited from high schools in priority neighborhoods. Immersion days and meetings are also organized to better guide local high school students in their choice of university course. Particular attention is paid to first-time students, encouraging their independence and success. Finally, the University has been awarded the "Welcome to France" label, underlining its efforts to welcome and support international students.
Equal opportunity means recognizing the hard work and investment of the men and women who make up our staff. An internal promotion procedure for our BIATSS colleagues (non-teaching staff in higher education) has been redesigned to be as balanced as possible, complemented by a welcome and integration program for all new staff and a policy of forward-looking employment, staffing and skills management (GPEEC). Measures have also been created or consolidated to limit pay disparities, promote skills upgrading and encourage long-term career advancement, as illustrated by the Talent Development School. A second program is specifically dedicated to the professional development of researchers and teacher-researchers.
Our university is committed to making scientific production and research data accessible, convinced that open science is a model that benefits the co-construction of knowledge, innovation and society. This approach also aims to reduce inequalities between countries and promote more equitable cooperation between researchers.
Over 600 research staff are mobilized every year in amU's scientific culture initiatives, and 78% of scientific production is currently open access. Other strong signals have been sent: the appointment of an Open Science project manager, the reaffirmation of our political orientations and the creation of two "experimental" Open Science training courses, and the creation of a dedicated amU charter.
The university's commitment to equality and the fight against discrimination
Defending a strong policy of inclusion
Aix Marseille Université is committed to a policy of inclusion, which examines both collectively and individually the obstacles to living together. In particular, it has developed a catalog of training courses for its staff designed to prevent and combat racism, anti-Semitism and LBGTIphobic representations and clichés.
It also intends to welcome an ever-increasing number of disabled staff. Of the 96 BIATSS positions, 16 are reserved for the disabled. The University is working to bring its buildings into line with current standards and to maintain the jobs of the people concerned. Students with disabilities benefit from a range of measures designed to enable them to pursue their studies with peace of mind.
A department dedicated to respect and equality
Faced with the extent of sexist and sexual violence, discrimination and harassment in our society, amU has decided to create a department for respect and equality. This internal, independent, professionalized service, the only one of its kind in France, is staffed by professionals in these fields, making Aix Marseille University a pioneer in this field. It is a place for listening, preventing, reporting and dealing with problems, open to all staff and students. It has been set up in collaboration with partners such as La Maison des femmes in Marseille, Le Défenseur des Droits, La Maison Départementale de Lutte contre les Discriminations and the Camp des Milles memorial site.
